Ayako Rokkaku is a self-taught Japanese artist who has been developing her own painting technique since 2002. By directly applying acrylic paint to the canvas using her bare fingers and hands, she creates a range of dynamic and vibrant compositions. Rokkaku’s works feature large-eyed, mostly female figures in a cartoonish style with candid facial expressions. The characters appear against dazzling backgrounds littered with a kaleidoscope of flowers, tiny figures, and colourful smears of paint, evidence of the artist’s love for the imagination and lack of rules in children’s drawings. This collection is published on the occasion of an exposition at Gallery Delaive in Amsterdam.
