Alnitak brings together twelve new paintings by Berlin-based artist Corinne Wasmuht, which will be exhibited at New York's Petzel Gallery in October 2015. In an interview with Dr. Sabine Eckmann, the artist explains the complex interplay between her paintings and the digital age; how she constructs new visual worlds from countless Internet templates and fuses them into large formats. Thus, in the eponymous piece Alnitak (named after a stellar nebula to the left of Orion's Belt), Wasmuht's new works show the evolution of her image database from landscapes to cosmologies, or in her own words, 'parallel worlds'. Wasmuht's stunning paintings are beautifully reproduced here and accompanied with installation views and work studies.
